Kent State University, Liquid Crystal Institute
Animated explainer designed to communicate the science of liquid crystals to a general audience. Ranks #1 on Youtube for “liquid crystals.”

Storyboard panels map the narrative arc and scene transitions. Set in a classroom, ideal for teaching science.

Animated diagrams explain details that the classroom setting can’t.

Color palette and shelf pattern changes to indicate different places liquid crystals can be found.

Hand-drawn type in real-world visuals introduce the different kinds of liquid crystals.
spirograph (animated logo)
Kent State University, School of Multidisciplinary Social Sciences and Humanities (SMSSH)

Animation inspired by using a Spirograph to create overlapping lines. The result is like a continuous series of Venn diagrams, representing the overlap of disciplines that makes SMSSH unique.
Enhancing the rock hall experience (interactive design)
M.A. thesis project: Reimagining the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame visitor experience with interactive design, using a device called MyVinyl.

Arriving: Find an Artist Kiosk
When you arrive, there’s a kiosk asking what artist(s) you came here to see. It shows their artifacts and exhibits on a multi-floor map. Place your MyVinyl disc on the screen to log in. MyVinyl keeps track of your favorite artists as you browse.
During: Led Zeppelin Interactive Table
You visit a special exhibit on Led Zeppelin. There’s an interactive table where you can listen to music and learn about Led Zeppelin’s influences. To interact, set MyVinyl on the table, drag the records sitting on the table, or touch the albums on the screen.
After: MyVinyl Website
Register with the code on your device. MyVinyl saves songs you heard and photos you took. It unlocks exclusive content for exhibits you interacted with and tracks your progress towards experiencing everything the Rock Hall has to offer.
